Water Sampling
The Countryside Lake water sampling program was initially established to monitor the effects of runoff from increased residential development in and around the Countryside Lake area, from 2002 to about 2009. After this period, flow data was collected at the Gilmer and Chevy Chase Rd culverts to monitor water flows and temperatures, from 2012 - 2016.
Volunteers who staffed the program collected samples during rain events at Indian Creek and other inlets to the lake. Overflow at the CLA dam was also tested. Data compiled by volunteers was reported to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, and the Lake County Lakes Management Unit to support quality assessments and improvement recommendations.
Procedures
Background
There were ongoing efforts to monitor the water quality entering Countryside Lake. A Water Monitoring Committee was formed. Data was originally collected around the time of the large Toll construction across from Gilmer road in 2002-2005. It was deemed likely that they were causing detriment to the Indian Creek inlet. CLA subsequently started a broad program of monitoring water inlets for various factors. A lawsuit ensued with Toll Brothers, using some of this data, but was ultimately settled with the IEPA and State of Illinois.
Extensive data was collected over several years with sampling equipment, and data loggers around the area.
